about

We were beginning to wallow in a bland and insipid safe zone when Benjamin Morando (one-half of Discodeine) sent us the demos of his project: THE NOISE CONSORT. We were blown away by the radicality of the project. And our response was simple: “crinoline ultra-violence! Awesome!”

The Noise Consort is an crazy mix of 17th century Baroque music and 21st century electronic experimentation, all with black metal undertones. The Noise Consort is a kind of mutant band who’ve blown up a harpsichord and uses the leftover pieces to create killer basslines, sick rhythms and insane chords. The Noise Consort is a time machine who’ve traveled to the future and past at the same time - with Aphex Twin, Pancrace Royer and Meshuggah along for the ride.

It’s modern and hybrid kind of music, free from any norm or genre - much like its three protagonists :

First there’s Benjamin Morando, an erudite composer, an insatiable researcher and Discodeine scholarly’s half (yeah, we’re a long ways away from "Synchronize" with Jarvis Cocker here). A discreet studio nerd capable of marrying classical instruments with synth technologies and sound transformations. He is the futuristic pop soul of this band that wields contemporary music, audio controllers and electronic keyboards.

Then there’s Gabriel Urgell Reyes, a prodigy pianist born in Cuba, noted early on for his eclectic choices, ranging from the great classical repertoire (Bach, Chopin, Debussy) to rarer Latin American works (Fariñas, Lecuona, Guastavino, etc.). An inspired and virtuoso musician, his work brings older styles of music back to life. The world of classical music, amazed by his personality and talent, awarded him a Diapason d'or for his album “Meeting Ginastera”.

And finally Philippe Renard, director of the music conservatory of Ponto-Combault, brilliant flutist by day and creative composer at night who, alongside Philippe Bolton, created a new electro-acoustic recorder in the 1990s.

The Noise Consort has invented a new way to be punk, like a bull in a china shop smashing all the norms. This kind of radical change is a necessary outlet, an essential breath of fresh air for our well-being.

The EP artwork is an oil on canvas piece “Annie Bal”, from the artist, BLASE, a sort of artistic hacker whose methods parallel those of the Noise Consort by erasing the boundaries between the past and the present. Dusty old paintings abandoned by their owners are brought to life by this inspired counterfeiter using the same techniques as used in the original piece but transforming them with both sordid and discreet new details. Pimp My Cultural Heritage.

The EP will have a digital release and an ultra-limited release on vinyl: only 100 copies available, exclusively at the Kill the Dj shop.
